So, a while
back the beauty community went a little crazy for They’re Real by Benefit, a
hype I completely understand (read my review, here). Sadly, due to my tightened
purse strings I never bought the full size; no matter how many times I was
tempted in Boots. Ten points to me for
self-restraint.
So, while
trying to find a drugstore dupe, I stumbled across this little gem. I tend to
dislike the 2-step mascaras, but Bourjois are killin’ it with their releases
lately so thought I’d give this a whirl. Upon first application, I loved
the first step; but the brush for the second step is so huge it left mascara everywhere. Literally everywhere,
not even just on my eyes, I’m talking eyebrows and cheeks here. It made my
eyelashes look nice, but was smudgey and the application was a nightmare.
Now, the
important thing to remember here is that to give it time. Leave it for about two weeks and use it again; you'll be blown away. I find the first brush a little
flimsy, but the first coat leaves lovely, long, separated, natural-looking
lashes (ideal if you’re after the ‘no-makeup makeup' look). The second coat is when
the magic happens though; insane volume with pretty much no effort (it does
have a tendency to pick up a bit too much product though). I admit that I’m
partial to a slightly clumpy eyelash
(it can’t just be me) but this gives me the exact look I want. I think I might
even prefer it to They’re Real.
Lengthening,
volumising, seriously long-lasting and less than half the price of Benefit’s
offering – I think we’re onto a winner
here.
Have you tried any drugstore dupes of high-end favourites?

Hey fellow Emily ahha! I just bought this mascara the other week aswell! I find that using the second step first to get the product onto the lashes, and then separating the lashes with step one gives the best results :) Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteOooh, that's a clever idea, I'll have to try that tomorrow :) It's a lovely mascara though isn't it!

Also loving the nutella jar as a brush holder, such a cute idea!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, thank you. I can't quite afford a Diptique candle so i use what I can (and it gives me an excuse to get through copious amounts of Nutella!!)
